Baccarat dates back all the way to the 1400’s, making it one of the casino’s oldest games to date. In Italian, “baccarat” means zero, and Italy is in fact most probably where the game hails from. The zero reference refers to the fact that all tens, Jacks, Queens and Kings have a value of zero. How To Play Baccarat

In Baccarat there are three options to bet on:  the Banker, the Player, or a tie.  A tie is usually a high-risk bet, as it is the most unlikely of the three to occur.  Winning bets on the Banker or the Player are even bets and what this means is that a win sees the player’s money doubled.  A tie pays out 8:1.

In a game of online Baccarat the player is dealt two cards from a shoe of 6 to 8 decks of cards.  The ideal situation is for the cards to total as close as possible to 9.  Cards numbered from 2 to 9 all represent their own point’s value.  The Ace card represents 1 and all of the tens cards amount to zero.

Should the total of the two cards dealt exceed 10, the initial digit is dropped.  For example, 19 will become 9.  Should the total exceed 5 from the initial two card draw, in other words 6 or over, that player must stand and will not be able to draw a third card.  If, on the other hand, the initial draw totals to 5 or less, a third card must be drawn.
